Thanksgiving DUI Increase – "Blackout Wednesday"

Historically, Colorado has seen increased DUI patrols around the Thanksgiving holiday.  Enforcement begins on Thanksgiving eve.  There is such a spike in DUI investigations on Thanksgiving eve that it is now being called “Blackout Wednesday.”  “Blackout Wednesday” sees a particular increase in binge drinking among young people.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 728 people will be injured or killed during the holiday season.

Being charged with a DUI can be an overwhelming experience.  DUI law is a complex area of law.  Unlike other areas of the law, DUI law seems to change regularly.  Because DUI law is constantly changing, it is important to have an attorney by your side.  This then begs the question:  How do I find the best DUI attorney?

Every person looking for the best DUI attorney likely has certain characteristics or expectations regarding the type of attorney they are looking for, but regardless of which attributes are important to you, it is important to meet your prospective attorney.  First and foremost it is important that you be comfortable with the attorney you hire.  For this reason, it is a good idea to meet your prospective attorney in person to help you assess your comfort level with the attorney.  The attorney’s experience level, meaning not only time in practice but also experience in the jurisdiction in which you are charged and the relationship between the prosecutors and judges, may also be important to consider.
